Breakdown/Overview of a VFX Shot in Suburban Plight

This is basically an outline of the process of creating a CG character in Blender, and bringing that character through the full operation of animating, lighting, rendering, and compositing.

Blender Particles

Blender' particle system is pretty cool. I play around with it a lot, but rarely do I get something that looks good.

Here, I share the technique I used to create my "Symmetrical Particles" animation in a 14- minute video tutorial.

Camera Mapping in Blender

Camera mapping is a really powerful technique that's used extensively in movies to turn still photos or matte paintings into very realistic 3D environments. A texture is projected FROM A CAMERA onto the objects in front of it. It allows for some basic camera moves, like push-ins and pull-outs.

It's actually a feature in most 3D applications, and so far is not available in Blender. This tutorial explains an unorthodox way to get the same effect in the best free 3D application out there.

Icarus Video Tutorial Series

Icarus is a motion tracking application. It has been bought and improved upon by The Pixel Farm, and is now available as a commercial application called "PFTrack".

However, Icarus is free for non-commercial use. Though it's outdated, it still works extremely well. I use it frequently - every time I want to match up live-action shots with 3D animation.
