Aerobics
- Lipsync |
9/07 |
| Here's
my first attempt with lipsync. Does it look like he's actually
talking? This model took me a while to rig. It's kinda hard to
work with, and there are weird deformations that I can't really
get rid of. (Check out the shoulders!) But anyway, I think this
was a fairly successful test. The sound clip is from Woody Allen's
"Scoop". |

Ben
- Walkcycle |
4/07 |
I've
been working on this character off and on for a few months.
It's been a very good exercise - and I've learned a whole lot.
It's my first humanoid/bipedal character, and this is my attempt
at his walkcycle. I want to do some real acting exercises with
this guy. |

Juice
Box Animation |
9/06 |
I've
seen a bunch of Juice Box animations recently so I decided
this was something I should try. The
animations I've seen usually show
some sort of change in emotion, so that's what I tried to do
here. This was a very challenging exercise for me, and it took
me at least 10 hours to finish. But I think it's one of my
best animations so far. |

Peerless Intro |
8/06 |
One
of the reasons my brother and I settled on "Peerless Productions"
was because of the alliteration possibilities in the progression
of the pronouncement of "Peerless Productions Proudly Presents".
I did a little brainstorming and came up with this short animation.
It's not as cool as it could be, but I do like it. I used Blender's
nodal system for the first time for this animation. |

Symmetrical
Particles |
3/06 |
| This
is a little clip I made today using Blender's particle system.
This is more "motion graphics" than animation, I
suppose, because there really isn't that much animation
going on here. The cool particle effects are all pretty much
automatic. Once you set it up. But anyway, I like motion graphics,
and I want to experiment more with this type of stuff. |

Walkcycle #2 |
2/06 |
| This
is my second 2D animated walkcycle. I tried to give this guy
some more character in the animation - I wanted him to be
"determined". I think I was successful to a certain
extent, but I think it's too similar to my first attempt.
There are also a lot of technical problems I have to get better
at. (For example, the head deforms when it should not.) But
I'm glad I did this cause I'm sure I improved in some way.

Baby
Snurgle Walkcycle |
2/06 |
Finally!
This is the Final Snurgle Baby Walkcycle. I completely
scrapped my old Snurgle model (which you can see further
down this page) and started over. So this is the Snurgle's
firstborn child... and this is how he walks!
Check
out the first draft of this animation here.
As you can see, it's a lot more cartoony.

2D
Ball & Tail Animation |
2/06 |
| This
4-second animation took me about 5 hours to complete. Even
though the character is simple, and relatively small. This
stuff is tedious! This particular animation ended up being
79 drawings. 79! I'm having second thoughts about pursuing
animation as a career. |

2D
Walkcycle |
2/06 |
| My
first traditional animation! This is based directly off of
the walkcycle outlined by Richard Williams in "The
Animator's Survival Kit", which is an amazing book.
I bought myself a lightbox this afternoon, and so this is
my first experiment with 2D animation. Woo! |

Squash/Stretch
Exercise 2 |
12/05 |
| This
is another squash/stretch animation done in Blender. This
one was done specifically for a "weekend challenge"
over at the Elysiun Blender
forums.
I
really wanted this to look as realistic - to have the ball
bounce as a real ball might. I don't think I reached this
goal but I think it looks pretty good.

Squash/Stretch
Exercise |
10/05 |
| This
is a short and simple animation of a simple bouncing ball.
It was created in Blender using vertex keys.
One
of the principles of animation is "Squash and Stretch",
which can make a character or object in motion look very dynamic.
This was just a little practice. |

Snurgle
Walkcycle (v10) |
5/05 |
| I've
been working on this guy for the better part of a year. He's
my first organic 3D character, and my first experience with
a lot of aspects of Blender (like vertex groups and stuff).
Finally I've arrived at something I'm proud of. This Snurgle
is going to play a crucial role in my next film. |

Theater
Animation |
5/05 |
| This
started out as a short clip to try out Blender's new softbody
system. This simulation is not very complex, but I still think
it's cool. The heavy cloth of the curtain in this animation
reacts to the movement of the top of the curtain, based on
gravity and wind resistance and whatnot. |

Puddle
(2D character anim) |
3/05 |
| Well,
I've been wanting to get into character animation (attempt
it, I mean) for a while-- and I thought I should start easy
and then work up. For this reason this is pretty much 2D.
I figure this is much easier... This was actually done with
Blender. I plan on doing more of this in the future. |

Clapboard |
5/04 |
| Well,
this isn't an especially impressive animation... but I liked
how it came out.
The
text is very cheesy, I know. But I was experimenting with
animated textures. |

Peerless/Universal
Logo |
4/04 |
|
This clip took a lot of time. A lot more than it should have.
But now I'm pretty satisfied with it. However, I recently
discovered that this animation has already been done by Universal
Studios! What are the chances? Anyhow, yeah, all credit goes
to them. I was just trying to see how well I could replicate
it. |
